So been kind of gone for a little while. We're now in a hotel with an expensive Internet connection but its broadband and I'm freakin' bored and not ready to sleep. According to the time on my dad's laptop it's around 11 AM on the 28th, Cali time. If I do my calculations correctly, that's 3AM on the 29th here. I could be wrong.
Anyhow, on the 28th here was my grandparents' on my dad's side 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration (actual day was the 20th I believe) and for the most part, it was pretty cool. It's just, I don't really know any of the relatives on my dad's side. At the hotel we're at, there were two side-by-side ballrooms. One for a different wedding and one for my grandparents. Because of that, my brother, sister, and I felt obligated to smile at everyone we passed because we weren't sure if they knew us.
Since I'm lazy and since most of you don't really want to hear about the happenings here, I'll just write up some thoughts elsewhere and post 'em. Some quick hits:
* Traffic sucks. It makes what would normally be a 10-15 minute drive into an hour to an hour-and-a-half long boring session of frustration. It also explains the massive and numerous billboards littered along the horizon.
* Related to the topic above: I find it peculiar that various people fix up there cars similar to racers do in the US. The average top speed we've probably gotten to around the city is 30Mph or so. 45-50 on a lucky day. If it's a race to the next bumper less than 4 feet away, is a huge spoiler really necessary? It's probably just a dumb question for me to ask, considering my supreme lack of knowledge in the area of autombiles, but I just find it peculiar. And then I think about it and I guess it's all about making cars look good. But one thing I found pretty funny was a huge spoiler on a Jeepney.
* I forgot all of my other quick hits.
After today, I'll be headed home. Cool.
It's been fun but I'm ready to leave.

Ugh. So I missed the Niner game but saw some highlights on ESPN. T.O. is still the man but it sucks that his celebration dance wasn't for the game winning touchdown. Dammit! I wish I could've watched the game but firstly, couldn't find it. Secondly, I was asleep at around 4 or 5 in the morning. But, I did catch some of the Sunday night game and Monday night game. There is American Football on ESPN here. Rejoice.
So another blog from the Philippines. Haha. Just waiting around again since nothing much planned for later tonight. It was an enjoyable day though. Just some notes:
* There are hella Filipinos here.
* I eat and eat and when I get full I eat some more.
* For whatever reason, we're waking up hella early here. 8 AM early. This is vacation!?
* They have some funny educational TV shows here. "What is the past tense of the irregular verb, 'forget'? Is it forgetted?" I'll post the pictures when I get back. It's a talking carabao that asks it. This is a live action show so the carabao is a girl in a suit.
* Who woulda thought that wearing my slippers outside would embarrass my aunts. "Hoy! They don't wear those here! Put on your sneakers!"
* Air conditioning is good.
* In big crowds, I can see over everyone.
Haha. And I read all your guys' blogs. Thanks for the well wishes. I'm laughing here in another Internet cafe and they're all giving me weird looks. Till next time, rock on.

A blog from the Philippines!
Whatup y'all. So I'm sittin' here with my bro at an Internet cafe waiting for my mom and some other family members to get done with some shopping at whatever mall we're at. I'll keep this short with some quick hits that I'll elaborate on a little later:
* Airplanes are way too small to get comfortable in for bulky guys like me.
* When we arrived it was a nice 77 degrees. At 6AM in the morning.
* I am eating way too much here and continue to add bulk.
* Ms. Manila and her friends are pretty hot. And my aunt is embarrassing.
Ok. There's more I should write, but perhaps later. I'm cutting out of this joint and paying my 50 pesos.

What? You act like you've never failed a class before? Oh, you haven't? I guess that's just me.
Or...
What? You act like you've never taken a midterm or final without studying before? Oh, you haven't? I guess that's just me.
Take your pick.
But I will pass this class. And I'm pretty sure I will study. Soon. After a short nap...

An interesting footbal tidbit:So in the endzone of the Dallas Cowboy's stadium they have what normal football teams have - their helmet and something that probably says "Dallas" or "Cowboys". I hadn't noticed at the time, but after Terrell Owens scored the winning touchdown, do you know where he stretched out his arms and looked up, just like he did two years ago? It wasn't at the midfield star. It was at the star on the Cowboy helmet in the endzone. Haha! Too bad Norwood Creek's park doesn't have any emblems such as that... Or any other place for that matter. I'd really like to add that celebration to my reportoire. Haha! J/K.

Niners clinch NFC West! Rockin'!
Whew. That was a close one. Good win but everyone needs to get healthy! And special teams need to step it up! Man. They better have some football americano over in the Philippines because if they don't, I'm gonna be missing a critical time of the year and I'm gonna be pissed. No kidding.
Another thing about the offense... I think the next game or two we need to start in a hurry up offense to get Garcia in a rhythm. If that doesn't get him going, then I think there's something wrong with him because he just doesn't seem to be displaying the accuracy that made him a Pro Bowl quarterback the past two years. But what do I know? I'm just an armchair quarterback.
On that note, isn't it interesting that Michael Vick should be a senior in college, just like myself. And that guy is making more this year than I'll likely make... within the next three or four years (hahaha. hopeful thinking). But that guy possess incredible physical abilities. The difference between our 6 foot, 205-210 pound bodies? His is 100 times faster, stronger, and doesn't possess as much body fat. Why didn't I get that ability? Damn that's weak.
And now, back to studying. Damn! Vick's not studying for finals right now!

So I should be a pretty happy camper right about now, right? Just finished classes, it's Friday, parents out of town, life is good. But for some strange reason, my excitement isn't what it probably should be. Yeah, there's always those damn finals, but I should at least still be kind of happy, right? Well not if you're in danger of failing a course, I guess.
And so, if y'all wanna come over tonite, you're more than welcome to. Tomorrow and Sunday I'll be studying. After football of course.

Call me a nerd but I'm kind of worried that when I'm in the Philippines, I'll have nothing to do. Well, not so much nothing to do. I just won't have a reliable internet connection. But don't get me wrong - as an addict, I'll find a way. I have to find a way or else I don't really know what I'm gonna be doing over there. Is San Miguel beer any good?

Just thought I'd share some sporting news that I found interesting:
- In a bit of irony, Jason Baker, the punter cut by the 49ers after his dismal performance against the Philadelphia Eagles, was signed by the Eagles
- The Washington Redskins, who may have been interested in a trade for current Niner kicker, Jeff Chandler (played college football under current Redskin head coach), just cut James Tuthill and signed... you guessed it... Jose Cortez. HAH!

Ok. I haven't blogged about many happenings recently, but I just wanted to pose a challenge out - the cracker challenge. This was done last weekend when everyone was cottonmouthed and said "One minute!? That's hecka time! Hell yeah I can do it." And I found that amusing. So here it is: eat 5 saltine crackers in less than a minute. No drinks, completely swallowed. If you can do it, you're not of this world.
And I'll elaborate more fully on other happenings later.

What's comin' up for my winter quarter? Senior Design Project. It's actually a lot of work that's supposed to be done throughout the year. My group and I have come up with three games that we plan on developing. Let me know if you've heard any of these titles, as these are the titles we have come up with tentatively:
- "The Myth of Mezeroth"
- "Intergalactic Build-a-Bot"
- "Photo Frenzy"
Haha. Gonna be a bitch to make.

Going back to my previous blog about Donovan McNabb and also after reading Jero's blog, I've come to the conclusion that the next time I get hurt, I really should play through it. Granted, I'm still a weakling afraid of getting hurt and I don't get paid to play, but if McNabb can play on a broken ankle... well. Damn. That's a broken ankle. Nearly 3 hours of football against superfast defenders and still completes 80% of his passes for 4 touchdowns. Or was it 3? Nonetheless, I'm still impressed.
Back to the subject of football: this cartoon has it right. And speaking of Donovan McNabb, that guy is insane. How do you play nearly 4 quarters of tackle football on a broken ankle? Amazing. I'd say it's the performance of the year. But it was also against the Cardinals.

Jeff's obsession with homosexuality is disturbing. Perhaps he has another secret that hasn't been shared yet. Don't worry though, all your friends accept you for the way you are. You don't need to front any more. Preach tolerance.

So in reminiscing about my days at Cisco, I've come up with a couple of things to remember for when I start my own company. As I discussed with Jeff, it's when you don't have it that you truly appreciate what you had. And in that sense, having free drinks at your disposal was something I can now truly appreciate. Imagine having 3 fridges of drinks similar to the ones you'd find at a local 7-11, one devoted to bottled waters, and the other devoted to sodas, juices, and other assorted drinks. Not only that, but there were several different blends of coffee, numerous choices of teas, and free popcorn. So, for those of you who are my future employees, you can look forward to having such luxuries. Similarly, I didn't really appreciate Fridays at Cisco as much as I can now. Having a couple of beers with coworkers on Fridays, in retrospect, rocked. At the time I thought it was just a cool "hey I don't have to do work right now if I have a beer with my boss and coworkers"-type deal. And that's still kind of what it is, but it's still cool to just have a beer at work. Now, at Sun, such luxuries are but figments of imaginations that harkens back to the days of the Silicon Valley boom. I'll tell coworkers that one thing I thought was cool at Cisco was the breakrooms, and they'll just say that it's a cool idea but can't comprehend and truly appreciate the breakroom's importance to company morale. Here at Sun, we get free coffee (usually yucky tasting) and an assortment of teas that lack in quality. I've been drinking hot cocoa, firstly because it's the only thing I like here, and secondly, that's pretty much as far as the selection goes. We get water but you have to poor it in a cup. And that leads to a rather indifferent feel to the company morale, in my opinion. I don't care how Sun does, but I thought Cisco was the best thing happening.
So, in all, when I start my own company, free drinks and assorted snacks, beer Fridays and other Cisco influences will be around. Or I'll just go back and work for them... if they were to hire me.

So I got my midterms from Friday back today and whaddya know, I did better than I expected. And I would hope so too because when you expect to get the lowest grade in the class, it should be easy to get better, right? As far as what I got, for all you overachievers, it's not that great, but for me, I'm borderline happy.

Dude. Let me tell you. Replacing the headlight bulb on my 1990 Acura Integra sucked ass. Now first of all, even though I'm an "engineer" per se, I'm not an auto mechanic or whatever. And I'll admit I'm not the brightest when it comes to cars. But this should've been a really, really easy thing to do, right? So with sparse documentation, I couldn't figure out how to get access to the bulb. To make matters worse, the room they give you to work with is super tiny. I was thinkin', "what the heck, man?" But then if you think about it, it makes sense. Over in Japan, they have smaller hands. But man, was it ever a biatch getting it out.
On a lighter note, I know a lot of people don't like the rain, but I actually kinda like it. I mean, I think I'd get sick of it after awhile if it happened excessively, but in general, California weather isn't rainy much. And along with changing my headlight bulb came changing my windshield wipers because man, oh man, the ride home was an adventure. It was like I was driving without my glasses, and if you know how bad my eyesight is, yikes. So tomorrow I'm looking forward to using my new windshield wipers. It's like I have a brand new car now. New headlights, new wiper blades. Oooh Weee.
If it weren't for my damn midterms tomorrow, today would be a fricken' awesome day. More or less.

Ain't this fun? Tomorrow, I have a midterm. Friday, I have two midterms and a quiz.
Tomorrow, I don't know anything about the subject matter, so I gotta study a whole damn lot. And Friday... well Friday... you know how when you took Psychology and they talked about behavior stuff and that eventually, giving an electric shock to something eventually made that something stop doing something in fear of the consequences? You would think I've gotten enough of those electric shocks by now. I mean, nearly 4 years of college and here I am, still procrastinating and not doing well. I soooo shouldn't have been an engineer. Oh man. I hate engineering. And I hate school. And as for Friday, what I know now will surely not be enough. And what I learn later today and tomorrow will hopefully be enough to get me a passing grade. Hopefully. Friday... Yikes.

Weekend updates have been scarce around these parts but I figure that since procrastination still controls me, I thought I'd put into words what I did in reality. So about here, you can stop reading because I know this interests no one.
On the work front, my boss gave me a rather ample amount of work to do so on Friday I was stuck there till around 6:30ish (which reminds me, I brought home some work to do which I still have to do). Following that, my cousin picked me up and we headed over to my other cousin's surprise birthday party over at Gordon Biersch. I didn't drink as much as I was hoping but it was a buffet. And, uh, I was hungry. I didn't know Gordon Biersch had buffets.
Saturday we played some football in the afternoon and my body still hasn't forgiven me. I'm pretty damn sore. On a sidenote, I can't find my frickin' new football. Dammit! I left it in the Suburban last week, never took it out, and when I go look for it again today, it's not in there. What the hell is that? My sister's the one who's been using the Suburban and she says she doesn't know of a football that was in there. I think she's lying. Hahaha.
Later in the evening, we watched The Ring. I thought the movie was good and at the time, pretty damn scary. And on the way home it was pretty scary, too. So, I'm a big fraidy cat.
Sunday I watched the Niners beat the Raiders. Just when I was growing in confidence with Mr. Cortez, you find out he's on the Raider-fan's payroll. Hey kicker! Just because your family roots for the Raiders doesn't mean you are one. Sheesh.
And now I think I should work on the work I need to work on.

Hehe. We have a gardener who mows the lawn and does other gardening activities every other week for us. I have a room that has a window to the backyard so I can see what the gardener is doing. A high fence divides us and the neightbor, who happens to have a persimmon tree, I believe. Or if persimmons don't grow on trees, it's something orange, but I don't think they're oranges. So anyhow, the tree kind of goes over our side of the fence. So what? Our slick gardener brings a ladder and starts picking the fruits. My dad always wants me to do the same 'cuz I'm tall and don't really need a ladder. Does anyone else see anything wrong with it? I mean, I understand that if it's on our side of the fence, it's ours, right? But for whatever reason, I just think it's embarrassing.

I thought this was interesting:
T.O. is the man.
"I think if you want to know the effects of Sharpiegate, you might want to look to the Canadian Football League. I hear there was a CFL game 10 days ago in which the receiver and the defensive back jumped for a pass in the end zone, both came down clutching it, and the defender ripped it from the receiver's grasp. The defender whipped out a pen, signed the ball and then gave it to a fan. The offense protested that it was their guy who actually came down with the ball. The officials huddled. They ruled it was an offensive touchdown. So the defensive guy celebrated, signed the ball ... and he was the guy who LOST on the play."
- Peter King, CNNSI.com MMQB

Hypothetically thinking... You know the story of Adam and Eve, right? And how Eve messed up everything and got the two of them banished from paradise. Well what if she hadn't given into the serpent and not eaten the forbidden fruit. We'd all be in paradise, right? And in that paradise, there's not supposed to be any work or anything, right? So would there be a need for school? If not, damn you, Eve. BUT, on the same token, if we lived in such a paradise, would we become an advanced society? Would the Internet and computer have come about? The proverbial double-edged sword -- Eve doesn't eat, paradise but no Internet. Eve eats, we're where we are today, but with Internet.
Yeah, I guess I'm a nerd... but don't get me wrong. Damn you, Eve. Paradise woulda rocked.

I thought this was fun:
At the end of class today in my Art History lecture, my professor is handing back our midterms from last week. So she's going down the names. Y'know, the usual stuff. And I don't know if these really are names in our class, but they sound like names in the class. I just thought I'd add it in for dramatic effect.
"Chris. Here's your midterm."
"Lindsey. There you go."
"Mike. Pass this one down to Bridget."
"Jeremy," then turns to the class, "who needs more caffeine for his next class."
And then we all have a good chuckle.
"What? You don't think I notice when students take a nap in class?"
Hahaha. No. I didn't think you noticed. Until of course you called on me during lecture when my eyes were closed. "Jeremy... What do you think of these two pieces of art. How would you compare them?"
Hahaha! Well firstly, I hope she really did call on me because I was just thinking that maybe she said a different name and I was mistaken in giving an answer. And secondly, Hah! Thought you could catch me off guard, huh, professor. So I give an answer and she agrees.
Anyhow, in and out of my dozing off, I had this feeling that she did notice but I swear - sometimes it's just really tough to keep your eyes open. Sheesh.

On my trek across campus from what should have been an easy midterm, I saw two things that probably only interest me. Firstly, I saw squirrel packing away something in the grass. It was awesome. Its little hands were moving with an impressively quick fury. I've never seen a squirrel digging and burying something. I was tempted to go look what it buried but that would've been mean, ruining its hard work.
The second thing I saw was perhaps even more awesome. If you by any chance have an extra $130,000 or so to spare, please purchase me a BMW Z8. I saw one parked at our school and I must say that despite its only recent release, the car looks instant vintage. It's a classic. Sweet lookin' car. Yowza.
I can't wait to win the lottery.

As I take a break from the studying of words that have no bearing on my future as a slacker, I return to my roots as a geek. And as I return to my roots as a geek, I am reminded that I spend much too much time in the vicinity of my computer. But nonetheless, I deliver the following news. And I say it now because I don't want to forget. This is not cricital to any of you because, quite frankly, its importance is neglible. Not officially now, but perhaps at some point, the site you see before you will be moving to www.riskingabsurdity.com/jeng. Eventually (at least my thought processes lead me to believe this is a good idea) this here URL (www.riskingabsurdity.com/djreyes) will house a professional site. But I dunno. Since I'm not very professional. So perhaps this blog is actually made in vain. And perhaps I am just babbling because I don't want to get back to studying. Such is the life of a slacking procrastinator.

Hahaha. So after reading Mr. Defensor's blog regarding the weekend updates, it dawned on me that I have yet to mention what happened last Friday night (Oct. 18) and the rest of my weekend updates. I'll keep it short since I know I usually write too much anyway and I'll write pretty much about Friday's haps.
So. Friday. First of all, I failed a midterm. Awesome way to begin the day. It brought my spirits to a new high. Perhaps much like the feeling I imagine you would get putting your hand through a running circular saw. Maybe not that fun, but fun nonetheless, do you know what I'm saying? So then I go to work where I talk with my boss. It was cool because she didn't seem as mad at me as I thought she was, but I still get a feeling that she dislikes me. And then, evening rolls around...
As you might know, a little party was thrown at a quaint little club in San Francisco. Drinks were around, yes. So you know how that goes. And as I blogged earlier about, but not with much elaboration, embarrassing is as embarrassing does. And I must say, I was perhaps as embarrassing as I ever hope to be again. Well, I've been embarrassing before, but this was pretty damn embarrassing. Yes, the music wasn't that great. Yes, the drinks weren't made that well. Yes, I did drink those drinks. Yes, I was perhaps inebriated. Yes, I did see all of you pointing and laughing. Yes, I did dance. And yes, I was embarrassing.
But no, I did not make love with my clothes on. No, I did not make that call. And no, Maganda Boy is yet another nickname that does not make sense.
But yes again, I was embarrassing. And I apologize.

Ok. I'm kind of worried. What do you think? Should i be? I think my boss is unhappy with me. By the way, this is a bit of a long blog so You can stop here if you want. I just want to throw this out there.
You see, I usually show up to work Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays between 2 and 6 because of school obligations - which my boss does say should be my number one priority: "Always school first." Lately my workload has been rather light for various reasons so last week I asked my boss if there was anything more I could be doing. I told her that with the current workload, I think I can handle more and if there was any work that needed to be done, I could do it. She said that with the reorganization (Sun just went through some managerial changes recently), jobs are kind of undefined and at the present, there isn't much more work for me to be doing except the one or two things I normally do anyhow. So I thought all was good.
So earlier this week, I left earlier because there wasn't much more for me to do. Unfortunately, and probably a big mistake on my part, I did leave early and didn't let anyone know. And I guess my boss tried calling me when I should've been there and left me a message (and I don't normally check my phone messages). So right there, I guess that's bad. But today, I forgot my badge at home. So I went home and figured that I could actually just handle the work I had to do at home rather than make the trek all the way back up to Menlo Park. So I email my coworkers saying that I'd be doing my work from home and if anything was needed, go ahead and call me. So the phone rings...
"Hello?" I say.
"Where are you?" Shit. It's my boss.
"I forgot my badge at home so I thought I'd work from home instead. I'm gathering the data you requested from here. I sent an email out earlier today."
"Ok. I think we should talk. Were you in on Tuesday?"
"Yeah. I finished up some work. I finished some web updates that were needed like the editorial calendar."
"I tried calling and left a message but you never replied, so I got worried."
"Oh. I normally don't check my messages. Hehe. I really should check that more often."
"Ok. Well I think we should talk. At this point, it seems as though you lack direction." HUH!? She continues, "I have a meeting with Jeff (our director) later today. Tomorrow when you come in, we should talk about your duties and deliverables."
"Uh. Ok."
So hmmm. I really hope that I don't get laid off. Hehe. Although, I have been looking for work elsewhere since the beginning of the week. But still. While I don't need this job, I don't wanna leave on a sour note. But dude! I asked her last week, right? "Is there anything more I can be doing?" And shit - if there isn't, what's the point of me staying there longer than necessary, right???

Terrell Owens is the man. From now on, I'm keeping a pen in my sock for whenever I score a touchdown. So I guess for now it'll just remain in the sock for a long while.
In related news, my fantasy football aspirations and potential have yet to be realized. That's right. Your reigning fantasy football champion is in a tight spot. For now.

World's funniest joke? According to researchers, below is the funniest joke. In my opinion, it's ok. I've heard better. But that's what the research says in this article. Of particular interest, especially to you embarassings out there - "many European countries, such as France, Denmark and Belgium, displayed a penchant for off-beat surreal humour, while Americans and Canadians preferred jokes where there was a strong sense of superiority -- either because a character looks stupid or is made to look stupid by someone else." Hmmm. Sound familiar?
So without further ado, the joke:
Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy takes out his phone and calls the emergency services.
He gasps: "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says: "Calm down, I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a gunshot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says: "OK, now what?"

EA Sports' Madden Football Video Game Franchise is awesome. It's really one of the only video games I play. Every year they find a new spokesperson and have them on their cover. In 2001, it was Eddie George. For 2002, it was Daunte Culpepper. The latest incarnation, Madden 2003, boasts Marshall Faulk as the latest cover boy. It's said to be a prestigious honor, being on the cover.
I hope that prestigious honor is never bestowed on a 49er.
For the past 3 years, the "Madden Curse" has held true. In 2001, the Tennessee Titans were supposed to be Super Bowl contenders with Eddie George leading the way. What happened? Injured. In 2002, Daunte Culpepper was going to take the league by storm with an insane amount of TDs and yardage with the help of Randy Moss. What happened? Team implosion. And now, 2003. Everyone but me (and my fellow Niner compatriots) had penciled the Rams in for a repeat Super Bowl appearance. What's happened thus far? A 0-5 record. Pathetic!
So now, the 49ers are sittin' pretty in first place at the top of the NFC West. And the Rams are again the Lambs.

Because I don't feel well I'm not going to class
I'm not going to work either to make the cash
So I sit here bored out of my mind
What the hell is this? I'm laying down rhymes?
I can't stand up 'cuz I start feeling dizzy
Should I do something else to keep myself busy?
So I evaluate the current situation.
Hah. I'll do nothing. It's all about procrastination
And on that note I'll bid adieu.
This boredom thing is not really new.
I'll look at other bloggers and read their shit.
It's all I ever do, but now I'm sick.

Football. Greatest sport out there.
Fantasy Football. Hard on the heart and frustrating. I should never have thought Kurt Warner in the second round was a steal. I should've known this would come back to haunt me. Damn the Rams. Damn the Rams. Damn the Rams.
But it's okay. I'll come back to win. And I'll keep saying that till the end of the season.

Ok. Some more changes. School starts tomorrow, so more changes are probably not going to come with the frequency they have been coming. I think I cleaned up the coloring a bit and added a different background. It's of the playground at the park nearby my house. Is the one before this one better?
If you've been here before, you might notice that the image to the left is changed a bit. I wanted it to match the comic book theme a little more. So if you get a chance out of your busy schedule, let me your opinion on how it looks compared to the old one. Or, do you think I should've not colored it and went with the plain old looking one?

898.8 miles from the gas station near Rich's house and then back to his place. And fun times those 898.8 miles were. Before I begin I just wanted to thank everyone down south for showing us a good time and being very hospitable. I know we were asses and embarassing, so thanks. Haha. And in case you may have thought that all we do is parttake in herbal indulgences, we don't blaze that much. Seriously. We drink, too.
So seriously, enjoyable times. A lot of shit-talking but hey, when isn't there a lot of shit-talking? I could probably say more, but I'm lazy. Yeah. I'm pretty lazy. I'll post some video or something and maybe some pics soon. You'll see the embarassingness first hand.

You ever try the Wild Berry flavored Smints? It says "Vit. C" on the box. I wonder if they're not mints, cuz they taste very similar to Flintstones vitamins. Perhaps they just used whatever Flintstones mints that weren't sold and recut them and packaged them and called them Smints. And if that's the case, awesome. I got my daily does of vitamins today!

When did they add the purple m&m to the m&m repertoire? More so, why did they add it? Mr. Defensor divulged the insight that the purple m&m won in its competition with the other colors vying for a roster spot in the m&m starting lineup, but why it got chosen baffles me. It looks like an Easter m&m that lost its place. It doesn't match the other colors, right? It's weird looking. But with all that said, don't knock the purple m&m because an m&m is an m&m is an m&m. Right? Stop being so discriminatory. Sheesh. Preach tolerance.

Sorry, but this is kind of a long blog. When the night dwindles down to the time I should sleep, I start blabbering gibberish.
So unless it pertains to football, I usually don't comment on current events here. But it being the one year anniversary of that now infamous day, 9/11 will not likely be forgotten. What was I doing that day? I believe I had cut down my hours working at Cisco because I woke up to the phone ringing; my Aunt from the Philippines calling. By that time, the attack had happened hours earlier. That morning, I think, my cousin had left from the Bay Area to go back East to New York where she lives. She had with her her children (my neice and nephew). No one could get a hold of her because apparently, they wouldn't land her plane. In any case, when my aunt called, she said the Twin Towers were bombed. And at that time, I really didn't think anything of it. I thought it was similar to the bombing a couple years ago. I was wrong. When I turned on the television I was dumbfounded. What the hell happened!? Well we all know now what happened, and I'm sure we all shared the same feelings and thoughts.
So now what do we do? I don't know. For me at least, life for the most part hasn't changed as dramatically as I thought it would. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I don't know.
What am I doing talking about this? I don't know, either. All I know is that 9/11 should be remembered and not recognizing all the aspects of it - the sadness that it produced, the anger that it fueled, the unity that it inspired - would not be good of me. Even if it's just a little blurb, I thought I should mention it. And thinking about it, life is pretty good. So, enjoy, my friends.

stuck in your head: faith
So as you can see from the design here, I kind of have this thought-bubble thing going. And so earlier I was a little bored. And I had a song stuck in my head for some reason. So the two kinda go hand-in-hand right? Anyway. So the point is, I felt like jamming to this song so I got my brother to guitar it and we put it in mp3. Also, originally it was supposed to be a video but I don't know how to use the fancy video editing software, so no visuals yet. Sorry. But perhaps in the future. So yeah. There ya go.

Ugh.
So it's weekend right? The weekends usually the time when you get to sleep in, enjoy the comfort of your bed, etc. Well hold on there, tiger. Today you're helping with yard work. So I get up at 8:30 am. True, not extremely early, but also true, it's Saturday. Freakin' Saturday.
Ok, I'm not complaining because I love helping out my dad and grandpa when I can. But I gotsta sleep. And I'm lazy. So what do they have me do? Most of the freakin' manual labor. I'm sure my dad is happy he had a strapping, albeit weak, boy that fateful day 21 years ago. So we're laying down new piping for the sprinkler system. We rented these huge ass tools from Home Depot. Well guess who they have do most of the work using those rather heavy tools? Yeah. Not my brother. At least not until my hands and the rest of my body was aching.
So here I am now. Aching. And if I'm aching now, I can only imagine what hell manual labor has wreaked upon my body. So what's the moral of the story? Manual labor on an out-of-shape engineering-student/sit-in-front-of-computer-all-day worker is not a good combination.
Oh yeah. And if you look at the time, that's right folks. At least 5-6 hours of manual labor. Haha. Of course I rested sometimes.

Haha. Okay. So in case you missed a couple blogs ago, I put down the words from a Sobe commercial. Well I now have the audio, too. Haha. Talk about boredom. Anyhow, click to download the Sobe Dragon Commercial.
Right now, maybe you are thinking "I'm a cool guy." But hey! Don't go there. Maybe if you drink a little Sobe Dragon you can think like that. Because with Sobe Dragon, you feel cool and strong - like a karate guy. "Hiiiiyayyyahhhh!!!" And if someone say anything bad to you, you can hit some bricks. BAM! BAM! BAM! Just to let them know that they should be nice to you. And if your girlfriend asks you, "Why are you acting like a dragon?" You can reply, "I'm not acting, baby."
Funny stuff.

First, I must say that while the performance by the Niners was a bit disappointing, a win is a win. And it's finally football season again! G'yeah! That's what I'm talkin about! Uh huh.
And second, work wasn't very fun. I just got back home a little while ago. Isn't that ridiculous? Hell yeah it is. But I guess it's also ridiculous that I procrastinate so much, which is the primary reason for having to stay late.
In any case, Mr. Defensor and I have been thinking up some big things for this little project where we risk absurdity. And risk absurdity we will. I hope. I'm kind of excited about the prospects we have. But then again, I get excited about a lot of stuff. "I'm not acting, baby."

So I was reading someone's away message (as most addicts do, I think) and came across this one which I thought was funny. I haven't heard the commercial, but reading it gave me a chuckle.

And now back to blogging. A month has passed, huh. Well, since my last update, there was some excitement which I'm sure you've read about at jeffd's site (for now being hosted at a much more reliable site, mr. rich's). So because of that, and because of my rather ample amount of laziness, I will not give you the four or five weekend updates I've missed.
Instead, I'll just let you know that I just finished my Electrical Engineering class earlier today. And I'm praying to God that the professor has mercy and listens to the note that I left for him at the end of my test: "Please pass me." If you were a teacher, would you spite me and not pass me for even thinking of putting that down? Man. It's classes like these that make me reconsider my place as an engineer and question my intelligence, or lack thereof. OH WELL. Fuck you, school.

Wow. More than a month since the last update for this here site. Ridiculous. So rather than bore you with the details into getting this shit back up, I'll warn you now that this isn't going to be a very stable site. It's a little on the slow side and might not be up sometimes. But nonetheless, it is up for now. Hopefully it will be more stable in the near future. Enjoy.

Ok. On the spot. My last blog didn't work correctly so I'm gonna blog a little more. Hmmm. What to do? How can I keep my audience entertained? Yeah. Tha't's a toughie, dude. Here's a song:
background: take a chance take a chance take a chance...
main: take a chance on me, bada dum dum dum. bada dum dum dum.
and I don't know the rest. But that "take a chance" part got stuck in my head.

FINALLY! This site is back up. Geez, Louise. Took long enough!
So I haven't done anything too exciting recently, so this weekend update is going to be kinda blah. Friday, I left for camping. Camping at San Luis Reservoir Basalt... Yeah, it wasn't the most exciting place, but I still had fun. It's fun to be lazy. On way back home Sunday, we made a pit stop in Gilroy. And then we went to the park and played some volleyball. And I missed my group project meeting. And I didn't do my paper. Again. Que horrible, no?
I can't think of anyting to say. I'm so sorry. I'm ashamed.

I don't like trying to be profound. I'm stubborn. I don't care for much. I don't like school and I don't like work. I'm confident in my skills as a worker. I'm arrogant. I don't like heat waves. I don't like extreme cold either. I don't like how my glasses feel crooked sometimes. I don't like waking up early in the morning. I have a pair of slippers and I don't like how the strap that holds it on to my foot sometimes disconnects and I'm left with a floppy slipper hanging on my foot but not doing its job. I don't like thinking I'm not capable of doing something. I don't like thinking that I'm not good enough even though I know I am. I used to not mind before, but I don't like sitting and watching when I could be doing something. I don't like being a pain. I don't like feeling pain. I don't like more stuff.
But I do like family. I do like friends. I enjoy the refreshing sip of an ice cold beverage on a hot day during a heat wave. I like the day after it rains and everything feels fresh. I even like rain, but not excessive rain. I like how my nieces don't have a real care in the world and still see through innocent eyes. I like the feeling I get when I blaze but I also like that I'm not going to be doing that as often. I like driving down the road and singing the song I have playing. Sometimes I like yelling with the music. I like that I was becoming more comfortable. I like the needle-in-a-haystack chance. I like the underdog. Sometimes I like the easy way out. I like more stuff.
But today, I don't like the easy way out.

As you can see I've sort of changed the design of my site. Tell me what you think. It's a pretty boring design, but lately, all of my designs have been pretty boring. But it seems I've been pretty bored lately so it fits the mood, yeah? If you think the old one was better, maybe I'll change it back.
Otherwise, the weekend update. Mind you, this is a rather boring weekend update so skip along if you like. Friday, had a couple drinks. Saturday was Casey's birthday. Sunday, I did some ridiculously random shit - redesigning the site was one of those shits. And I could probably delve deeper into all the above activities, but you probably don't wanna know. And if you do, you know how to contact me. So please do. 'Coz man, I'm bored.

why bother?
First things first - I'm thinking I'm interested in throwing a party for an upcoming weekend. For you friends out there, I believe we are all aware there is a vacant weekend with nothing planned, so that would be the date. Nothing set in stone - I'm just trying to gauge how interested people would be in such a party. Since no one really reads this here site, I just thought I'd throw the idea out there. If enough people wanna throw down, then I'll send out the mass email. Not too massive, but a good amount of people. And sorry if you don't get the mass email - you're not invited! Haha. Just kidding. Maybe.
So I'm pretty bored, right? And I've just been sitting here thinking to myself as I do quite a bit and felt the urge to blog. This isn't a typical blog because I hate this shit, but I'll let the lack of sleep get to me. As discussed previously with a different audience, it's come to my attention that lameness is a quality that I have in abundance. I know you don't believe it but, I'm sorry my friend, it's true. I'm not sure why I try to ignore certain "givens" or even probably hints. And I'm not sure if I should address these certain things even though I might want to. But then I keep thinkin', nothin' to lose, right? Why bother? Retarded. Retarded and lame. Stop. Stop, already.

Man, I could really go with the whole "fuck the world" motif considering, but not limited to, the fact that work sucks and I have a midterm Tuesday, plus four readings, need to start reading for an extra novel the damn bitch assigned only me, and research for the same class. I have not started studying. I have not started reading. I have not started doing research. And you know what? I don't think I'm gonna start. I'm gonna try to rely on whatever bullshitting capabilities I think I have, and kinda let things go with the flow. And then some.

for you to notice
Friends - I know a weekend update is a bit premature considering the weekend is just starting, but we got this party going started Wednesday and I'm here today, and I'm ready to throw down, just because.
So Wednesday, I went out with the cousins again over to Mission Rock in San Francisco. Phat party. Not much more I can say.
Thursday, another phat party in San Francisco. Actually, it was a BBQ. Got that one started in the afternoon and actually ended surprisingly early.
Friday, went mother-fuckin' skydiving, yo! Rockin'! The ride up there was a bitch, but well worth it, in my opinion. Then we met up with some folk back in San Jose, and that was cool. Then had a little party back in San Francisco. I ain't even kidding. I got more to say but you know. Shiet.

Sittin' on the dock of the bay, watching the tide roll away
Party people, I bring you my weekend update. It's been brought to my attention that I write too much. Sorry about that. I'll try to keep this one short.
Friday, after a long day of work and a long week, I was able to enjoy myself. Enjoy myself a lot. We went to Discovery Bay where a friend owns a vacation home. It's off the delta, and his backyard is water. Awesome. Did the usual party festivities and just relaxed and enjoyed. Relaxed and enjoyed.
Saturday, the fun didn't stop. Started early (side note: I apologize to everyone whose sleep may have been interrupted by my snoring. If it makes you feel any better, I slept extremely well.), ended nicely. Since we were on that delta, and our friend had a paddle boat type of thing, we used it and just cruised around. Not really cruised 'cuz I think I weighed it down, but just sat out there and enjoyed. Then we went back to San Jose, had some pizza. Then played some volleyball. And then swam. Fun filled day.
And now it's Sunday, and I'm pretty lazy. So we'll stop there.

i would swing from anything
It's that time again - my life-or-lack-there-of update. So, friend, what have I been up to? Thursday played some basketball and then watched The Bourne Identity. Not a bad movie, but there were some parts that were kinda dumb - in some ways hilarious. Went with Richard "Bruce Banner" Cayetano and Oli. Pretty cool. Friday, went and watched another movie: Minority Report. (On a sidenote: It seems that it's either feast or famine when it comes to movies for me. I've watched more movies lately and really hadn't seen anything new before Spider-Man. Yeah, that's a big span I guess. I'm arguing with myself. Shizer.) I liked Minority Report better than Bourne Identity. I thought it was really cool. Went with the hulk, Oli, and a little girl. We were gonna go and do some stuff but I think it was past the girl's bedtime or something. Haha. Just kidding. After the movie and some chillen' I went over to Oli's house, had some adobo and beer while watching How High. Rich stopped by, too, after dropping off the young'en. All good.
Saturday helped my cousin move some stuff, then headed over to David's house for a pool party. Only there for a short while then went to Mr. Jeff "So Buff Girls Can't Get Enough" D for his graduation party. Pretty cool. Played some bones, chatted with folk I haven't seen in a long time. Good times. Then went and had some more good times.
Sunday played some volleyball. I think I sunburned my head. If you didn't know, I shaved my head. I hadn't noticed I burned my head until just a little while ago when I decided to give myself a haircut and shave my head some more. It stung.
I gotta end now. Apparently, I missed class Thursday. I thought summer school was supposed to start this week. Mother fuckers.

summer summer summer time
Finally summer. Before I begin on my own weekend update, congratulations to all of you graduates. No more school - I envy you. And to all you daddio's out there, happy father's day as well. I don't know what the custom is, but my cousin Joey and his wife Grace have their first baby in the oven, so if it isn't premature, I'd like to say happy father's day to him.
On to the weekend update. So, Friday I was my last day off before I start working full time. I wanted to drop an ethernet line down to my room by way of my brother's room (which is the room above mine). I planned on finishing it Friday, but what ended up happening was I only bought the supplies Friday. A cousin and his parents on my dad's side from LA came over as well. We had dinner. My cousin (his name is pronounced Boji) just graduated from university in the Philippines, top of his class. I was mighty impressed because if he were at my school, there would be something like 5 million students between our rankings. So, besides dinner, I didn't do much. I fixed my bro's computer. What a nerd. Friday night and fixing a computer. Great.
On Saturday I had hoped to attend some graduations but my dad asked the siblings and I to hang out with our cousin. That was fine. We went over to Lake Cunningham where a cousin from my mom's side was having a birthday bbq. On a side note, every weekend for the past month I've been over at Lake Cunningham. One was for my god-daughter's birthday, the next for my sister's graduation bbq, and now this birthday party. And each time, the grass seems to be getting drier and drier. So anyway, that was fun. Played some volleyball, then some dominoes.
Later Saturday night the same cousin who had the birthday bbq and some other cousins and their friend's went out clubbing, which I also did. Pretty fun. Got to drink. Was missing something though, nah mean? Haha. Anyway, one cousin yakked a bunch, a cousin's friend was getting the chills, and another cousin dropped. Haha! If that's how I looked when I dropped, I can see what y'all were scared of. Haha! Anyhow, good fun.
Oh yeah! After the club we went to go eat over at Denny's. I rode with my cousin Joey, Grace, and Diana in the A4. Man I miss that car. But anyway, when we got there, there was a fight goin' down between these two bitches in front of the restaurant. We parked across from the entrance, so I started walking toward it and then I hear this cop car racing toward me. Haha. I almost got run over. But anyway, I finally see this one girl on top of the other girl and she's holding the girl's hair and looked like she was either punching her or trying to pummel her head to the concrete. I don't think she succeeded, and before it could get anymore out of hand the police officer broke it up. It was kinda cool. Later, words were exchanged. Y'kno "What bitch!?" "What you want!? Kick your ass!" "Bitch!!" etc. Girls and their dramatics. Sheesh.

Two failed tests down, one more to go.
Yeah, you read that headline right. Another one down, one more to go. And let me tell you this last one was supposed to be the easiest of them. Well, not really easy, but still easier than the others in comparison. It was tough. I got slapped like a bitch. It hurts. I really hope I pass. Oh man, I hope I pass. Sweet mother, let me pass. If you let me pass all the classes this quarter, I promise to be a better student. Seriously, let me pass ALL of them.

If the rant from yesterday afternoon scared you, my apologies. I was getting a bit delusional having the half hour of sleep that I had. By the by, that last statement where I say "I'd make it eat my shit, etc" is from the move Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back I believe. In any case, while I do abhor school, I'm not really as angry as I might sound. But damn, I do hate school. And I feel bad for hating it. Sorry, school.
No! I'm not sorry, ya' mangy bitch! I still hate you - I'm just sorry for myself. Look what you've done made me do.

One failed test down, two more to go.
If I weren't the manly man I am, I'd be crying right now. But I've come to accept the fact that one failed test will inevitably lead to another. Fuckin' school, man. Why am I so fucking stupid? Seriously. I hate this shit, man! Argh. I swear if school were some physical entity, I think I'd have to go and shoot it. That would be my epic - my odyssey. Slaying the fiery bitch of a thing in Hades. I'd yell "Bitch! You bitch! I hate you bitch! Why you do this to me, bitch!? How you like it!? Huh? Bomb!" I'd make it eat my shit, then eat the shit it shits out, and then make it eat that shit again. Dammit!

Wow. I really can't study very well. It's not something I'm good at. My mind wanders way too much. To take a "break" from all the "studying" I've been doing, I looked at my web site and realized that I have not done shit to that left-side menu all one of you see. Sorry, friend. With finals ending on Wednesday, I should be able to get some pet projects done, hopefully. And then I start work full-time next week. And then summer school starts. Ahhh - the excitement never ends for an under-achieving undergraduate computer-engineering student who just happened to change his hairstyle just recently.
Boy, do I hate school. I have finals this week and am mighty terrified of them. Tough quarter, let me tell you. Funny story. For one of my classes, we had a final project to do. I'm in the class with two friends so we worked on the project as a group. It's a programming project and we had to demonstrate that it works properly for her. Now, we're not the best students and I speak for myself when I say I know I'm not the smartest guy in the world. In fact, I know I'm absolutely not the smartest guy in engineering - perhaps I'm on the other side of the spectrum. In any case, when it comes time to demo for our professor, she walks into the room and says something to the effect of, "This should be the project to end all projects, because you guys need it the most." HAHAHAHAHA! Holy moley I can't believe she just said that.
And now the weekend update: Friday my cousin and her friends had this little shindig over at the Double Tree hotel to celebrate their college graduation. I also think it was a party for some festival thing they're throwing. It was cool, despite the large Filipino gathering. By the by, I'm not knocking the Filipino culture that I embrace. It's just the people. Hah! You know what I mean. I know you know what I mean. Anyhow, just did a little drinking and other stuff. Fun night.
Saturday, my family had a party for my grandmother's birthday at our house. We watched a taping of the Lewis-Tyson fight. Kinda cool. Then we went over to Hanah's house for a little party he was having. I didn't parttake in much activity as I have to study for finals. But my cousin Chris and JJ got pretty fucked. Pretty funny.
And in retrospect, I shoulda drank more because I'm not studying right now although I damn well should be. I'm such a dumbass.

I don't like school much. If I didn't tell you that, you might think I loved school because I just got back from it. Nearly seven straight hours of lab work and our shit still ain't working. Optimistically, we're 50% done. On top of that, there's another project that needs to get finished. Bullshat. That's what I call it. Bullshat.
So that's what's been going on over here on this side of the pond. Over at muscle beach, Jeff "So Buff Girls Can't Get Enough" Defensor has put up pictures from the birthday bash I alluded to the other day. Check 'em out if you wanna see me retardedly shit-faced and lookin' dirty as fuck. I really should start fixing my hair again. I can't rock the flowing mane like I wish I could. And maybe start shaving again, but I think I'm gonna try to grow a soul patch. But I digress. That's embarassing stuff, yo. I guess that's what comes out of a blazin'-40 night. Next time, we'll try a blazin'-80 night. You heard it here first.

increase the volume please
Weekend update: It was a pretty busy weekend that started off most righteously. To celebrate my friend Elaine's 21st birthday (May 28), a party was thrown on Friday. Naturally, beverages of alcoholic variety made their expected appearances. Two new friends did, too: Gertude and The Green Machine. I didn't meet Gertrude first hand but from what I saw, she's quick. Pictures are deceptive (previously shown at Jeff's Place). The Green Machine, on the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed. Prior to meeting it, my brother was telling me that it was harsh to even seasoned veterans. I found it rather smooth. Very nice. In all, a good night. I'm sure the video is funny, but unfortunately, I'm also sure it's particularly embarassing for yours truly. But hey, you can't knock a blaze-n-40 night. Ghetto fother-mucker.
Saturday, my sister graduated from high school. Though I might not show it outwardly, I'm proud of her. Way to go. Had a little party on Saturday that lasted into the late night.
Sunday, my sister and her friends had a joint BBQ. Played some volleyball and football. Fun times. Also catched the last half of the Kings-Lakers game. Wack. Then I had to go to do a group project between 8 and 11. I'm dead tired then, so starting to study for the midterm I had today was horrible. Procrastinator? Hell yeah. Dumbass? No doubt. Gonna pass? I'm a God-fearing man. I hope I do. I should.
And finally, I wrote the following while at work. I had to email it to myself because it didn't work while at work. Horrible. So, here's a blog from what would've been posted last week:
"I'm at work right now and am profoundly bored. It appears the servers are having trouble either on this side or that side so gathering data is like picking cotton by hand. I wouldn't know how picking cotton by hand is, but I hear it's rather time-consuming and hurts. This hurts because of these damn "network computers" - the so-called future of computing. Well if this is the future, send me back to the stone-age, Scott McNeally or Larry Ellison and give me a Wintel machine. In any case, since, it looks like its gonna take awhile, I think I'll rant and elaborate.
Rant: These computer are slow.
Elaborate: As I said on Sunday, I just got back from Las Vegas. What I lost may not be a lot to all you high-rollers, but to a college-student like myself, losing what I lost hurts a lot..."
I never finished because after some tests, I realized it wasn't going to work. And you know what? I'm probably not gonna finish because I'm lazy.
Horrible. So, here's a blog from what would've been posted last week:

viva las vegas again
Just got back from Vegas a little while ago. Again, fun times. Went for my friend Thomas' 21st and I'm glad I could make it. Despite the large amount of funds lost during the excursion, I enjoyed the time and look forward to going to Vegas again. Hopefully next time, I'll win big instead of lose big. I'll blog more on this subject later.

make me happy for one moment
Haven't been blogging lately, but here's what's been happening so far. Watch the plot unfold before your very eyes.
The other day, Jeff and I got our new cases for the computers we're going to build. Very nice. Thanks to Jeff for showing me this case. I'm looking forward to this new rig as it will invariably lead me to more low grades. But at least I'll still be a geek. A dumb geek, though. A dumb, poor geek, cuz this rig ain't gonna be cheap.
I've been procrastinating a lot more than usual lately. And I haven't even been blogging - except now of course. But I had a midterm today in my Databases class. Shoulda been cake, but I like doing things the hard way. Tomorrow I have a midterm and a project due. I will probably be pulling an all nighter. Quick question: when you (as a student) pull the proverbial all-nighter, do you really do the all-night thing? I think it's torture on my body. But it's my fault. Rather than start studying at 11, I should do it much, much earlier, huh. But, the way I see it now (because before I'd head to bed around 3ish), if I can stay up all night for a video game, why can't I do it for studying? So, with little breaks in between, the past couple of tests I've studied up until I've had to get ready for class (i.e. till the sun comes up). My friends - don't try this. It will get you nowhere and I'm your prime example. If your goal is to wallow through school in mediocrity, then maybe you can do this. But... I dunno. I'm an idiot.
And I hate school.

weekend
Pretty good weekend. In case you were wondering, I didn't catch Spider-Man again. Friday, didn't really do much. Because my parents weren't going to be here for Mother's Day on the 12th (Trip to Vegas as a gift from their children), we had dinner Friday night. Nothing huge - just a small chinese restaurant. Played some Halo, too. The usual.
Saturday my parents left for Las Vegas in the afternoon. Later in the day, met up with an old friend from high school, Mr. Ko, and another friend (Christine's the name). Recently, when Mr. Ko has come up from Irvine, this has meant activity I'm sure you're all familiar with. This weekend was no different. So, Saturday, I was running a little late to meet up with them to go to a hip hop show of some sort in Berkeley. That plan was scratched and we went over to University Ave. in Palo Alto. There we walked around after some activity. Also there, my brother phoned me to ask if I could purchase him some beverages of the fermented variety. He informed me of a Souls of Mischief performance at Stanford University. Perfect. After delivering the goods, we headed over to Stanford for this small performance. Pretty cool. It was free, and Souls of Mischief, Zion I, the Triple Threat DJs, and this little independent rapper guy LT and the Friendly Traveller performed. Very nice except for the poor sound quality. And the sprinklers went off which ended the Souls of Mischief performance a bit prematurely. But it was all good. A small crowd (I'd say around 100 or so) meant that we wouldn't be battling for positions - except this really tall white guy was standing in front of us. Nonetheless, an enjoyable Saturday.
Sunday, lazy.

I am so satisfied with the Spider-Man movie that I've put up a page for it. It's got my review and other little tidbits. Check it out if you like.

wealth and fame, he's ignored. action is his reward
Ok, true believers. If you have your sound up, you'll hear some music. It won't be here for long but I needed to put it up in commemoration of the Spider-Man movie coming out tomorrow - mind you, the greatest superhero ever created. And some good news - my cousin-in-law invited me to go watch a sneak peak at the movie tonight! So I'm stoked. I should study for a midterm but it's Spider-Man, yo!

Ok. Finally. Here we go. So as you can see this is a newly redesigned site with an easier URL and everything. I still have my old one up at my school server. It will not be updated from now on so for you hordes of fans, don't bog down my school server with unnecessary page requests (gettin' a little technical on ya'). Unfortunately, this site is not as complete yet. It's actually an updated version of Two just with a menu on the left and stuff. Still nothing yet to put up. Not much time with school and work and work and school. You know how it goes. Besides, my life is about as interesting as watching your hard drive get defragmented. Haha. I'm a nerd. But a dumb nerd, which sucks.

i risk absurdity is my new screen name. Please direct your Instant Messages to that name instead of xaltdone. However, I will not be deleting xaltdone, so you may see me on that name from time to time. I've had that for a long, long time. I think it goes all the way back to 1994-95. Yeah, I've been a geek that long.
Actually, longer. You ever try doing a CAD drawing on a 286? Didn't think so. I'm talking a blazing 25MHz, 16KB RAM, 5" floppy disk drive, MS-DOS machine, from what I remember. What do you got nowadays? 2GHz (~2000MHz), 1GB (~1,000,000KB) RAM, DVD-RW drive. Kids these days. And for you folk who have used even older machines - whoa.

Woo! Risking Absurdity is up. This site will soon be migrated there. Sorry for the lack of updates. Not so much time lately.

By the way, later this week we should be able to put our website up. If I understand my copyright laws correctly, all I have to do is put copyright and it should be copyrighted. Same with trademarks. But, officially, if I wanted to spend the money, I could register it. I don't want to spend money. So here - so none of you can steal our stuff:
Risking Absurdity. Trademark and Copyright © 2002.

weekend update: For those of you who didn't know, some friends and I went down south for the weekend to attend audiotistic. Pretty phat. Our group got there a little late, but I thought it was ok since I didn't really know the lineup before that. We arrived for the first performance I was really looking forward to: DJ QBert and Money Mark. Dope. That was awesome. Later on, Mos Def performed and that was sweet. Unfortunately, standing that long hurt my feet, so we left the hip hop venue for a short while. We missed a couple of performances - Blackalicious, The Roots, Talib Kwali - but that's ok. We did see most of the final act - Outkast. That was dope. All in all, an Excellent weekend. Extremely and insanely fun, in my opinion. Others might not have thought it that way, but I thought it was perhaps one of the funnest weekends I've had - close friends, good music, and besides the heat, long lines and large amount of people, I thought it was a pretty nice atmosphere. I just wish there were more opportunities to enjoy time like that.

fo'dees blunts blunts fo'dees
Weekend update: A lot of stuff went down this weekend. All pretty good. On Friday, played some Halo with the cousins. Good stuff. Saturday was packed with some tiring activities. In the afternoon, the family went over to Ikea where I purchased a new desk. I wanted a new one with more space to work on, so I bought one. My brother bought a new couch bed which is pretty nice. Later in the evening, picked up Chris and rolled over to a little hotel party for Rich's birthday. Had some drinks and more fun. On Sunday, built the desk I bought and did some homework. Fun.

I've been having trouble with blogger lately, so some of the stuff may not be working properly. A new test design is up here so check it out. Once I finish up with the rest of the design, everything here will be migrated there.
D devastate I impress Z zestfully clean and fresh
Sorry for the long break, but I'm back. Earlier I was having a couple of problems with blogger but I think I fixed it. Also, if you didn't know that I got back from Las Vegas Monday morning (~2am), now you know.
Weekend Update: Las Vegas was awesome. The usual stuff but not as much drinking as I was expecting. Fun nonetheless. Can't wait to go again.
School just started today. Still not that cool.
Job starts Monday. Hopefully will be cool.
Tuesday, March 26, 2002
oh e oh e oh
Finally, spring break! Yeah! So what have I been doing? Nothing much really. Just excited for Thursday. What's on Thursday, you ask? The beginning of the proverbial college road trip. And this one is to Las Vegas. Las Vegas is where it's at. Go there when we're there.
Weekend update: Nothing new. I had pictures on the digital camera I wanted to use for a new website design but I think my grandpa may have removed them. On Saturday, my sister had a debut of sorts which was cool, in my opinion. She raked in some money so hopefully she kicks down to her poor brother.
Also, on Friday I was offered a job from Sun Microsystems, so I'm stoked.
Yesterday, I began building my grandpa's new computer. It's pretty phat. I think I wanna keep it. It's smokin' fast. Check out the tech update for the specs on the new comp.

where you at, boy? somewhere rappin'?
Official countdown to a week-long break that will unfortunately end far too soon: 2 days
Pops, if you've found this site, cool. But know that what's here is not always great.
Background: On Sunday, I got sick and was throwing up. I didn't get to study the amount of time I wanted to for my Monday final. I should've told me professor but I figured she wouldn't believe me ("How convenient, a sickness the night before a final," is what she would say). I get home after the final, not feeling great about my performance as well as my general health. I need to study. I have another final on Tuesday. I was up studying late Monday night for this final, as I usually do. I thought I set my alarm clock to 5am, so I could fit in some more studying in the morning. How do I wake up? The gardner's lawn mower is rattling the windows. What time do I wake up? 10am. What time do I get to school? 10:20am. Why so quick? Final was at 9:10am. Never have I done this before. Hopefully, never will it happen again.
I was reading Rich's latest on his website (nice new design) and have discovered that I am not the only one with insomnia. I, too, have been sleeping around 4am-ish, and I really don't know why. Unfortunately, sometimes when I want to sleep earlier, it's not possible. For example, the other night, I thought I'd be able to get some sleeping done by going to bed at 1am. So I laid myself down. I seriously could not get to sleep. I'd close my eyes but couldn't do it. I'd look at the clock and realize time moving, however slowly. Next thing I know, it's 4:30am. Weak. And then I fall asleep, only to wake up again at 8am.
I have a second job interview tomorrow (actually today, now - Wednesday). It's actually a followup. Last week I was interviewed at Sun Microsystems, Inc, and so the lady who interviewed me wanted me to go in for another interview with the rest of her crew. I hope I get the job. It seems like a really cool place and the job seems like a cool one. I hope I get the job. Finding a new internship has been pretty tough.

"in my younger days i used to sport a sag"
Haha. I'm looking through some of my old archives and came across an inventions list I came up with in 1996. I thought I was so smart, but now i'm thinking that at the time I came up with the idea, I probably heard it from somewhere. But if I didn't, then I had the ideas before companies such as Sony (their XM Radio) and the like. Haha. I can't believe I even tried to make some of it technical. Check it out for some fun.

"we ain't goin' nowhere"
I know I've been missing from the bloggin' scene, but my mind has been elsewhere lately. Halo has decided to play a larger part in my life, not too large, but more significant. It's a cool game. I wish I had a faster connection, but then again, if I did, I probably wouldn't be doing this because I'd be playing. Oh well.
To further complicate things, the resume sending isn't getting much receiving. I guess that's ok, but I really, really need a job. Wanna hire me? Do it!
I'm also still in the middle of developing a new design for this site. I have some ideas in mind, but they're not that appealing to me. I really have no idea what to do. It's come to the point that I don't want to do it, but I do. It makes no sense, but such is life.
I was reading an article talking about how in the future, people won't be able to read data like this because it will be obsolete. They actually did an experiment with it where they had some technology similar to a laser disc (a laser disc, what's that? karaoke, fool!) fifteen years ago and tried to read it this year and I don't think the results came out favorably. This could mean that we will be a forgotten age. Let's hope not.
Also updated was sports. Nothing much, but just letting you know.

I'm in the middle of migrating my website from geocities to my school web server. The address won't be as easy to remember, but how many of you actually know my site by heart? I don't. If some of the pages don't work, they will eventually.

I just sent out some resumes to companies who actually posted some available internships at Santa Clara's Intern Center. The chances I'll get a response are probably not very high. This sucks. Last year I was fortunate enough to still be working and the year before that, jobs were aplenty. When will this drought end?
"rock a rhyme that's right on time - it's tricky."
In the academic battle that wages on, the institution continues to dominate the man. Without the weapons of study and know-how, I continue to struggle in the quizzical and midterm battles. But come next year, the war will be won. Just wait, you bastard.
In a battle of other sorts, I played some Halo again today at my friend Peter's ("OJ Simpson") house with him and Joe ("Do Ma"). It was fun but we got our arses kicked by a guy who goes by the name of "topdog" and two of his cronies who weren't that great. Nonetheless, it was an impressive display of combat. In related news, I believe I will be getting an Xbox tomorrow - which means the academic battle will continue to get tougher.
I spoke with Hercules reborn (Jeff) yesterday, and he proposed a joint-venture of getting an actual domain name for more professional purposes. Sounds great to me so hopefully, if funding is adequate and we find a host within our budget, you will soon be able to find us at www.something.com. Replace "something" with whatever we choose.
It's tough.

"i wish i could get my head out of the sand"
Weekend Update On Saturday, I went to go watch the Filipino comedian, Rex Navarette. I went in expecting some humor and left satisfied. That guy is damn hilarious. Even when he used some of the jokes from his CDs, he changed them enough so they were still damn funny. If you ever get a chance, watch that guy. You won't be disapointed. Opening for him was a group called Elements of the Outer Realm (I think). They were pretty good but one of their lead singers looked kinda funny. But yeah, they're pretty good. I should've bought one of their CDs. That show alone would've made it a good weekend, but adding Halo for the Xbox finished off the Sunday early morning with a cherry.
To top it off, just got news from the amigos that the trip to Las Vegas is on. And when it's on, you know it's on like a mo' fo'. If you're going to be in that area for the weekend beginning March 28, we will see you there. Fun times to come f'sho'.
To top that off, next week is my last week of this quarter (besides finals week). This week is a little hectic, as I have a midterm I should be studying for tomorrow, another mini-midterm on Tuesday, and a paper due on Friday.
But it don't matter. Life right now ain't all that bad. Only thing missin' is a _ _ _ _ (fill in the blanks), nah mean? Haha. Word. Best b'lee 'dat.

"say what?...buddy buddy"
I got an email from geocities today and it's not cool. I won't be able to FTP to the site anymore because I'm one of the people who use geocities for free. Not cool. That means that I won't be able to update these pages as easily. But it's okay. I'll find a new server soon.
And a message to theory of algorithms - I do not like you. I await our battle of the mind tomorrow.

"here comes the sun, and i say, it's all right"
So that portfolio I've blabbed about still hasn't been made. I played around with one design but was quite disappointed with how it turned out. I'm also thinking about adding a profile of sorts a la jeff and rich.
By the way, school continues to chug along and only about three more weeks of classes left for this quarter. I can't wait for it to be over - but actually, this quarter ain't all that bad compared to previous ones. I'm actually in some classes that make sense and I am more interested in than usual. But it's still school.

I'm getting a bit bored with the design I'm using and am very tempted to change it but can't come up with any new ones. I don't know if I should stick with this kind of design or go with something more corporate looking. Perhaps I'll do what my friend Rich did with his site (when it was up) - giving an option at the beginning for personal stuff or business. We shall see.

So I'm getting ready to go to Las Vegas for my soon to be cousin-in-law's bachelor party. It'll be my first trip there when I'm legally able to gamble. When the situation permits, I may take some pictures so come back to see them.
Also, I got this from my little cousin Janel. I usally don't really like all these emails with those "send your friend" stuff and what-not. But I did check this one out and thought it was pretty funny. Check it out here.

"...first of all, verbal basketball..."
I'm at school right now and updating this part of my site is turning out to be pretty easy. I just registered for my classes and let me tell you, I have a fun schedule of classes slated for next quarter. I love school. I pity the fool who ain't an engineer and gets to not only sign up for classes, but labs, too.

"...so hurry up and get here..."
I decided to try out this blogger thing. I got it from Jeff and it looks like it works pretty well on his site, so I thought why not add it on mine.
Below is the old stuff before I started using blogger.
2002 Feb 21 Thursday "...feel the rhythm of the conga... this is just a little samba..."
No new design updates today. I'm still trying to figure out how to do the interface for my portfolio which, by the way, probably won't have much. So don't hold your breath. I did add some updates to sports and music, though. It won't change your world, but if you'd like my opinion, check them out. I'm considering also adding a technology sub-section under my ramblings. But I don't know how many nerds that get excited about technology like I do are out there.
Anyway, onto life. A couple of months ago, I decided to get a subscription to the online espn site. I know, I know - an excessive cost that isn't necessary but at the time, I was working and didn't feel that the money spent on the subscription would amount to much. Anyhow, I'm no longer working and forgot that the subscription removes money from my account every month. So, I get this overdraft charge from Bank of America that I don't have enough money to pay for the subscription, so they charge me even more money because I don't. This kind of seems a little dumb to me, but I'm just a kid living in the man's world. Screw the system. I'll pay it though. Somehow.

This is a revision of the website I posted earlier. I'm a little more happier with this design but still feel it's lacking. I am proud, however, because it is my first actual attempts at writing most of the code. Although you will find some pages that were made with the help of Macromedia's Dreamweaver, I did try to do most of the code by hand. I'd like to thank the creator of jbd for the insight regarding the html. I'm still trying to figure out how to best do the interface for the portfolio I hope to put up, as well as other things I want to add to the site. Anyway, that's it as far as this site goes.
I'm looking forward to this weekend. My soon-to-be cousin-in-law is having a bachelor's party in Las Vegas and I just found out the midterm I was supposed to have on Monday was moved to Friday. No worries for the weekend. Excellent.
