Man. I'm pretty darn bored here at work. I have nothing to do. Slow work day. So I again looked at some of my old blogs. Some fun times out there. I read the blog about the cracker challenge and remembering the people that night and their confidence in their ability to carry out the challenge... man. Maybe I'm the only one who still laughs at that, but seriously, I think it's pretty damn funny.

"One minute? Man, that's hella time."

Chomp, chomp...

Chomp, chomp...

Chomp, chomp...

"(cough, cough) Agh (spit out dry wad of cracker)."

And then off to Jack-in-the-Box... then Krispy Kreme... then Carl's Jr. Holy Moley. Did we really go to Carl's Jr.?

Sigh.

I need some sort of party. Preferably soon.
Did I say "near-30 page document"? I meant 38 pages. 38 pages of fun.

The longest paper I've probably ever written at SCU is 6 pages, but even that's lying because I probably made it 5.25 pages if the minimum was 6. And I think that's weird. In high school, I wrote the same amount but in college, it appears they like my concise BS and I guess the grades reflect that. I don't get how people can write so much. I always start running out of stuff near the end. (Or I start running out of time. You know me, the procrastinator. Finishing a paper 5 minutes before class). I feel like I just start repeating stuff.

Anyway, now I'm in the process of finishing up a near-30 page document for our senior design project. Granted, I haven't worked on all the stuff by myself and there are pictures, but still. It's nearly 30 pages. And yes, a lot of it looks like marketing hyperbole, but still. Nearly 30 pages. That's 5 times more than I've ever done.

I know, I know. All you graduate students and doctoral candidates and what not probably write 30 pages every so often or whatever (maybe I just have this false perception that they write a lot), but for me as an engineering student, that's a whole lot of tree.

And now I'm just dragging along this blog, huh.
I don't think I've mentioned this yet so I'm putting it out there. I don't know how many non-geeks keep up with beta stuff and what-not, but Google has always been pretty cool in releasing little tools even in beta form. Before they were big, they started off in beta which was pretty cool. They've recently introduced a service called Froogle and though I haven't used it yet, I figured that if it turns out to be half as good as Google is, it'll be pretty darn good. It helps you find products for sale.
The last article was probably not even the funniest. You gotta look around for some more good stuff.
I had almost forgotten how funny some of the stuff at The Onion is. In my boredom at a slow work day, I found this article, along with many others, amusing. Although I'm guessing SCU is more diverse, the article reminded me of the place I call hell.

I thought this was kinda funny. In a Tuesday Morning Quarterback article on ESPN.com, Easterbrook delivers exciting insider information about the Super Bowl. It turns out that on the field playing defensive back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was not Ronde Barber but in fact, his twin brother Tiki Barber of the New York Giants.

Ike's a commie.

Hehe. Just kidding. Long live capitalism.

While watching the Justin Timberlake video, Cry Me a River, on CMC, the following dialogue was exchanged between me and my brother:

Brother: What's the point of video taping him and that girl?

Me: To make Britney jealous.

Brother: It makes me jealous.

Oh.

LOL. I'm tearing up that's so funny! You're hecka gay, Broder!

Building off of another's blog (cited), I, too, look forward to the story of Rich displayed in cinematic glory. I've been wondering why your online time has been cut down in recent weeks. It appears you've been shooting a movie in San Francisco. Please don't hurt me.

Maybe not your taste, but I'm enjoying the new CD by The All-American Rejects.
Part 2 of my Philippine adventure is up. Enjoy. Part 1 is still up, too.

Thursday, January 23, 2003

Approximately 12 hours from now, surgery to remove my four wisdom teeth will commence. Awesome.
Ok. I also added some pictures from my trip to the Philippines. Not much but I'm too lazy to finish up some more.
HAHAHA. Man. January '03 Jeng needs to go to July '02 Jeng and beat some sense into him.

Lameness. Embarrassingness. Ridiculousness. All at its peak.

Seriously. Body shots!? What were you thinking, July '02 Jeng? What the f**k were you thinking?
HAHA. Is hindsight really always 20/20?

For whatever reason, I remembered this from elementary school P.E. class. It was probably second or third grade, possibly higher, and our P.E. coach was having us run laps around the field. There were no real pathways to follow, just the shape of the field. But he did notice that people were cutting the corners and offered this piece of advice: "Don't cut corners because if you cut corners now, you'll be cutting corners later on in life. And not in just running." How deep and profound. I thought at the time, "HAHA! Yeah right. I'm a smart kid. This is just running. I won't be cutting corners all the time."

That fucker was right. I now cut corners left and right.

And with that note, I leave for D&B's to procrastinate on a damn project and studying for a quiz. Damn you Coach McCrone and your prophetic statement.
I sure would like to play some football some time soon.

I just remembered reading this from before the Niners lost to Tampa Bay and I thought it was funny: Skip Bayless of the San Jose Mercury News was writing about how the Niners can win the game. He mentioned that the Bucs recievers weren't all that good. In fact, even Mike Rumph (rookie out of Miami) could cover them. He said it was like playing against three JJ Stokes'. Hahaha.

On another note. One name that's popped up in the coaching search for the Niners is Lovie Smith, defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Lambs. NO! I don't want that guy! Come on, now. Sure, he's a pretty good coach but still. The principles, man. The principles. I learned my lesson in what happens when you choose a Lamb. Big no no.

I thought this poster at a local Quizno's restaurant was kind of funny:

"Add bacon. Words to live by."

And to die by, too, I would think. I'll find more words to live by.
And another little tidbit that only I probably find interesting: Mooch's Niner career started with a loss to the Bucs and ended with a loss to the Bucs. That sucks.
This probably doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things but I thought it was interesting. Mike Mularkey, the Steelers' current offensive coordinator who I think would be kind of cool as Niner head coach, was a draft pick as a tight end in the 1983 draft. Who drafted him? Bill Walsh of the 49ers, but Mularkey never played for the Niners. I don't know what happened. Perhaps he wasn't good enough.

Whoa.

Mariucci, out of San Francisco? That's a big surprise to me, especially with the announcement so soon. I thought they'd at least try to work something out. This is how I feel about the subject, so many of you can stop reading now as it is not important.

Unlike many people, I liked Mooch and saw some justification for his calls. Sometimes. I do think he lacked the killer instinct and it's very unfortunate. As writer Skip Bayless put it, Mooch was Coach Kumbaya. And I miss the days of a more involved passing game, but at the same time I actually kind of liked the running game.

I would've liked to see Mooch stay because right now, I don't really see anyone else I'd rather have as coach. Mooch's record was pretty good. I don't think he gets enough credit for bringing the 49ers back from salary cap hell. What ultimately did him in, in my opinion, was his offensive philosophy and the fact that it wasn't Terry Donahue or John York that brought him into the organization. In fact, I think they just used him to rebuild the team so they could hire another coach who would win the big one and then take credit for it and win Executive of the Year. Shame on them.

So who's the next coach? If they made the announcement this early, there must be someone they have in mind. Mooch has to be considered one of the top ten, if not the top five, coaches in the league right now. He's a valuable commodity and I'm sure he'll be able to find a job soon, and all indications point to a job with the Jaguars. We could've gotten compensation in a trade or something. But I guess that's not happening now.

There's speculation that Dennis Green might become coach. You know what I say to that? POPPYCOCK! Don't bring in that guy! He had talent in Minnesota and couldn't bring them to the Super Bowl. Who cares if he has history here in the Bay Area? I don't think he matches.

Jim Mora, Jr., current defensive coordinator, is also thought to be an option. While I think he's cool and all, I'm not sure if he's ready for a head coaching job. Sure, we had a lot of injuries to the defense this year and he made some fine adjustments, but so did the Raiders. And I think they had a better defense. He'll be a head coach in the NFL eventually. I don't think now would be a good time. But then again, continuity with this young team would be really good. They're coming off two winning seasons are still a relatively young team. We can't have someone come in and tear all that down.

I'm guessing Greg Knapp, current offensive coordinator, might also get consideration. He seems like he has the same philosophy as Mooch, so I don't think he'd be a good fit.

One person who I think I would like to see get interviewed is Mike Mularkey, offensive coordinator of the Steelers. Sure, it might not be pure West Coast Offense, but nothing now really is. It's all variations. What I like about his offense though is that it's wide open. I think at times, it's aggressive too. We need agressiveness.

So yeah. Long blog. I missed class because of it. But it's the Niners! And this is gigantimungus news.

Hehe. Here's one for you guys:

Connect Charlie Chaplin to Kevin Bacon.

Hehe. Just kidding.
Hey Rich. In regards to your post:

I'm not gonna go through all the degrees but I just thought it was worth a mention that Martin Lawrence was in Bad Boys with Will Smith. Will Smith was in the movie Six Degrees of Separation. According to the Internet, Kevin Bacon wasn't in that movie. Doesn't help much with the game that I don't complete it, but I just thought it was an interesting little tidbit.

I should've blogged this on January 11. Hey Joey and Grace, congratulations! Welcome to the world, Aliya Emi Icasiano!
I'm in a computer lab at school right now. There's a lab administrator here who I'm guessing is a student, possibly a grad student. He's huge. He's taller than I am by a good six inches or so. I'm not very good at guessing weights so all I can say is he's healthy and his belly shows it. I only mention this because I think he seems like an interesting character. I don't mean to be mean or anything, and everyone should know by now that I'm a big geek, but this guy looks like your typical geek. He has big glasses, a bowl-like hair cut and you can just imagine him pushing up his glasses by the bridge with a pleasant snort as he discusses the finer nuances of advanced data structures and abstraction in object-oriented programming... He seems like he'd be a cool guy to know (meaning he'd share his homework which would likely have all the correct answers and not mind too much). What I find more interesting is that he's always smiling. While he's sitting at his lab administrator desk and stares at his computer screen, he's smiling. In a sense it's kinda spooky. All I can imagine is his various geek friends online are constantly bombarding him with funny IMs. Or he's looking at porn. That would be pretty funny.

Ok. No kidding. I'd be lying if I told you that my elbow and hands don't sting. I was just in the shower and I was cursing the asphalt that my ass falled on.

Best birthday gift: A Niner playoff victory.

Never lose faith. That's why you never leave a game. Football is life.

Thursday, January 2, 2003

Happy Birthday to my fellow Capricorn cousin, Shirley.
What the heck? Why did I wake up at 7 this morning and why can't I get back to sleep?

Wednesday, January 1, 2003

If this is jetlag, I guess I have it. Otherwise, I just can't get to sleep on the day we start the New Year.

Anyhow, 2002 was good. In a word, it was different, I guess. For many good reasons.

I look forward to 2003.
